Refined skin texture, smooth and even is a reflection of healthy skin. But sometimes, skin goes through periods of stress and experiences irregularities, making it granular and uneven. What are the causes of uneven skin texture and how can you refine it to reveal its radiance?

We'll explain everything!

First, what is uneven skin texture?

Uneven skin texture is recognizable by touch, with a rough and granular texture visible to the eye. This problem affects combination or oily skin more because one of the reasons for uneven skin texture is excess sebum which clogs pores, promoting the formation of blackheads, which subsequently causes this granular appearance.

Here are the most common characteristics of an irregular skin texture:

  • enlarged pores and blackheads,
  • pimples (red and white) and blemishes,
  • roughness and harsh appearance,
  • shine due to excess sebum,
  • pigment spots,
  • dull and faded complexion.

Causes of uneven skin texture

The skin is subject to many factors that have a distinct impact on its structure and texture, including:

  • age: with aging, the skin produces less collagen and elastin, leading to a loss of elasticity and tone, thus impacting its texture. (discover our tips for naturally stimulating collagen production)
  • exposure to the sun's UV rays: the sun damages the superficial layer of the epidermis, altering its texture,
  • poor lifestyle: an unbalanced diet, dehydration, insomnia, smoking and alcohol,
  • unsuitable facial routine: wrong products, cleansing and makeup removal,
  • overproduction of sebum causes clogged pores.
  • hormonal cycle, stress and pollution.

How to refine uneven skin texture?: our tips

1. Refine skin texture by cleansing your face morning and night

To remove impurities, excess sebum and traces of makeup, carefully cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type, which does not irritate the epidermis and does not cause overproduction of sebum.

You can also do what is called double cleansing to deeply get rid of impurities.

In the morning, you can only use a toning lotion, floral water or hydrosol to refresh the skin without affecting the hydrolipidic film.

2. Refine skin texture by moisturizing it

Hydration is essential to protect and nourish the skin. This is a step not to be overlooked, no matter your skin type.

The goal here is to rebalance your hydrolipidic film. So, opt for a day and night cream with a light texture and nourishing non-comedogenic components to hydrate the skin, protect it from external aggressions and regulate sebum production.

Focus on products based on hyaluronic acid given their power to retain water in the epidermis, which guarantees prolonged hydration.

3. Refine skin texture by exfoliating it for a unified appearance

Once or twice a week, gently exfoliate the skin to remove dead cells, impurities, and unclog pores. Choose a scrub that suits your skin type and does not aggress it. Either:

  • a mechanical scrub with fine or coarse grains depending on your skin's sensitivity. It is suitable for combination and oily skin. Baking soda will do the trick if you're looking for an affordable alternative.
  • an enzymatic scrub without grains. These are exfoliants based on fruit acids or AHAs. They help to remove dead cells and dirt without risking opening blackheads or pimples. An enzymatic scrub without grains is ideal for acne-prone and blemish-prone skin.

Exfoliation is applied to clean and cleansed skin, followed by a moisturizing treatment to soothe and restore it. Exfoliated skin is more able to regenerate and benefit most from the care applied to it.

4. Refine skin texture by deeply purifying it

For even more satisfying results, apply a purifying mask after your scrub. This helps to deeply detoxify the skin so that it regains its softness and all its radiance.

A white clay, charcoal mask or masks based on zinc and copper are excellent for gently purifying the epidermis and refining its texture.

Tip : for more effectiveness, apply your mask after a steam bath of about 10 minutes to open the pores and facilitate the extraction of impurities.

5. Refine skin texture by tightening enlarged pores

This is a step that will drastically improve the texture and refine the skin's texture. Apparent pores are often caused by hyperseborrhea (excess sebum) and collagen loss, which leads to a loss of elasticity. The steps shared in this article, namely cleansing, exfoliation and hydration, are highly effective in getting rid of this excess sebum and tightening enlarged pores.

Another tip to incorporate into your daily facial routine is the use of cold. Cold is known to tighten pores, refine skin texture and provide an immediate boost of radiance. You have several ways to use cold, including:

  • using ice cubes covered with a cloth and applying it to the skin,
  • using an Ice Roller for a refreshing facial massage,
  • rinsing the face with cold water.

6. PRP facial to refine skin texture
